PLANNING AN EXPEDITION IN THE 21st CENTURY
By:Grace Keppel, Keaton Grizzell, Mason Hutchens, Jorie Nichol, and Mark McDonough.

If We were to go on an expedition with our group we would of course need; clothing, food, communication, transportation, shelter, equipment, and defense. In our equipment we would need something to keep track of where we are and where we've been.
CLOTHING
For our clothing we would use thinsulate. Thinsulate insulation is capable of retaining thermal abiltities in damp conditions and is easily dried. It is one of the best clothing insulators available. It would be ideal in our clothing because the micro-fibers make it light weight yet warm. We would also bring some normal clothes for any warm weather.

FOOD

For our food we would get dried and vaccuum packed food. We would also get a helicopter to drop down more food as we need it.
We could also get water tablets, that way if we found fresh water we could purify and drink it.

COMMUNICATION
And where would we be without communication? We would get a set of walkie talkies that have a 25 mile range. It has a strong enough signal to use in dense forest. It is called the Cobra microTALK CXT400 Two Way Radio

We would also get a Ham band radio to contact the helicopter for supplies.

TRANSPORTATION
ATVs are what we would use because they are immensely powerful and strong
ATV we are looking at is called Brute Force 750 NRA Outdoors it has a rounded price of $10,000. If we all use one that is 50 grand. Check out;http://www.kawasaki.com/products/atvs.aspx to see some ATVs we could use
4x4 Trucks are c

ommonly used for off road expeditions. We would need a generator to charge this one.
.
As another form of transportation, we would get a helicopter. We would use it to do drops so we could get food and extra equipment that we need. An average helicopter costs a little above $250,000.

SHELTER
A tent we were looking at is the Eureka Family 20 by 10, 12 person tent. We well get three. One for guys and one for gals and finally a storage tent. See http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/268179/camping_checklist_99_of_the_things.html it's a great site to that shows what you would need for a camping trip. This can help get a ideas about what we would need to bring with us on our expedition.

EQUIPMENT
As for charting where we go we could take a laptop and type journal entries or even do podcasts. We could take pictures with a camera and using a Gps (we think we found a good one, the Gps Magellen Roadmate for $250) could put entries on certain places so that we can log in what each place looks like. A good laptop for an expedition would be the Panasonic Toughbook. It is the world lightest computer with an optical device for making videos and it is the best weather proof computer available.
